Girdwood Marathon
Girdwood, United States • 4 Oct 2025
The Girdwood Marathon, held in Girdwood, Alaska, is a challenging trail race set for October 4, 2025, featuring a full marathon (26.2 miles), half marathon, juniors half marathon, and a new 5K trails race. Starting and finishing at the Alyeska Day Lodge, the courses traverse over 30 scenic trails through temperate rainforest, including the Winner Creek Trail, Iditarod Trails, Nordic 5K Loop, and various mountain and bike paths. Known for its rugged terrain and wet October conditions, the marathon is described as feeling like an ultra run, with a 4.5-hour cutoff at mile 17 for safety.
Five aid stations provide snacks and water, but runners must bring their own hydration and bear spray. The event supports the Girdwood Nordic Ski Club and encourages volunteering, with no refunds offered. Dogs are not allowed for safety reasons.
