Course and safety
The route begins near sea level on Tanaka Cat Road, proceeds through the lower resort bowl onto the Silvertip single-track, then climbs Center Ridge to Teacup Bowl and the Headwall at about 3,800 ft. The Headwall ridge features short ups and downs with a gradual downgrade toward the MAX weather station (about 3,300 ft). The descent continues over loose rock and mountain heather into Max’s Mountain trail, passing through hemlock and spruce with moss-covered fallen trees and loamy soil, and returns to Tanaka Cat Road before finishing at the DayLodge. Competitors must inspect Center Ridge before race day and are subject to a strict cut-off at the start of Center Ridge (50 minutes). The course will be marked; runners are asked to follow flagging and marshal instructions, exercise careful footwork on technical sections, and use the prescribed rock-warning procedures.
