Crocodile Challenge : event overview

The Crocodile Challenge is a six-hour running event held at Ryton Pools Country Park, Coventry (CV8 3BH). Entrants aged 16 and over on 23/01/2026 are eligible. The organiser donates 7.5% of entry fees to Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and has allocated a limited number of charity places. The event has been run annually since 2018.

  • One lap ~3.3 miles (an out-and-back loop)
  • Single lap ~5 km (approximate, for one-lap finishes)
  • Half marathon = 4 laps
  • Marathon = 8 laps
  • Long-distance possibility: 50+ miles with many laps

Entry prices are tiered: £37 before 23/12/2025 and £42 thereafter; unaffiliated entrants pay £2 extra.

Course and logistics

The course is relatively flat with a few small rises. Underfoot is mainly crushed stone with a short section of single track and some looser areas. The loop runs around pools and open pasture. Parking on site costs up to £5 depending on stay length. A cafe and toilet block are next to the event headquarters. Canicross is permitted with short leads and a separate canicross entry; the event is also described as suitable for rucking. A GPX of the route is available and the route will be marked on race day.
