Cougar Ridge Classic overview

The Cougar Ridge Classic is a point to point trail running event that starts in Vail and finishes in the Town of Minturn, Colorado. The main course traverses Vail Mountain with sustained uphill sections, alpine singletrack and long descents. Runners encounter high alpine scenery including views of Mount of the Holy Cross and groves of aspen.

Two course options are offered:

  • 26K : 16.1 miles (25.9K), 3,439' elevation gain.
  • 14K : 8.9 miles (14.3K), 591' elevation gain.

The 26K reaches a high point near 10,979 feet and drops to a low point near 7,830 feet. Running surfaces for the 26K are primarily singletrack, with dirt or gravel roads and some paved road sections. There are five staffed aid stations along the course equipped with water, pre mixed electrolyte fluids from Skratch Labs, energy chews and an assortment of sweet and salty snacks. Mid Vail and Eagle's Nest stations may have ice available. Gear bag transport to mid course or the finish is offered with size limits; bags are returned to the finish by course close. Shuttle service runs between Minturn and Vail before and after the event. Awards include cash prizes for the top three men and women and all racers receive a lunch voucher valid at participating Minturn restaurants.
