Lakeland Trails Coniston
Coniston, United Kingdom • 6 Jun 2026
Event Overview
Lakeland Trails in Coniston is a trail running event on June 6, 2026, based at the Coniston Sports and Social Club venue. The event offers three main activities: a 10k trail run and two 16k options—a Challenge for less competitive participants and a Race for competitive runners.
Courses and Terrain
The routes start from the shores of Coniston Water and pass through the Coppermines Valley, with views of the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam, and Dow Crags. The courses use well-marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways. Underfoot conditions are generally good for off-road running, though one short section on the 16k routes is described as suitable only for "agile mountain goats." The terrain includes scenic, hard-packed trails with occasional muddy sections. There are road sections where runners must keep to the right.
Distances
- Coniston Trail Run 10k: For participants aged 16 and over, with a 2-hour time limit.
- Coniston Trail Challenge 16k: For less competitive runners and fitness walkers aged 18 and over, with a 3.5-hour time limit. Prizes are only available for those in the 2 p.m. start.
- Coniston Trail Race 16k: For competitive runners aged 18 and over, with a 2-hour time limit.
Event Facilities
The event village features live music, race commentary, food and drink stalls, and trade stands. A professional photographer will be on the course, with free photos available after the event. There is a free Children's Fun Trail for under-12s at 12:30 p.m. Portable toilets and a baggage storage area are provided.
Participant Information
Race numbers must be collected on the day at least 45 minutes before the start time. Event t-shirts must be ordered in advance. Participants are encouraged to carry their own water or a reusable cup, as cups are not supplied at water stations. There is one water station on the 10k course and two on the 16k course. Suitable trail running shoes are recommended. In-ear headphones are not permitted; only bone-conducting headphones are allowed.

The event car park opens at 8:45 a.m. All-day parking costs £5 for cars and £6 for vans. Cars with four or more occupants park for free. Public transport is available via the 505 bus from Ambleside, with a £3 fare cap. Participants using public transport or car-sharing can enter a prize draw for a free future entry.
