Lakeland Trails Coniston

Coniston | Lakeland Trails

The event is based at Coniston Sports and Social Club and uses well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways around Coniston Water and through the Coppermines Valley. Routes pass beneath the Old Man and provide views of Coniston Water and the surrounding peaks of Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags.

Underfoot is mainly hard packed trail with occasional muddy sections. One short section on the 16K route may be difficult to run for many participants and could require careful footing or walking. Course marshals manage junctions and some gates; closed gates should be closed after passing to protect livestock. Dogs are not permitted on the running courses; dogs at the main venue should be kept on a lead.

The event village includes live music, race commentary, food and drink stalls supplied by local traders, retail support from Pete Bland Sports and an inov8 presence, portable toilets and a PA system. Race numbers and timing use a chip that must be attached horizontally for accurate timing. Results are published live online and prizegivings are held for both 10K and 16K categories, including open and veteran classes.

Practical arrangements include event parking with charges for cars and vans and free parking when vehicles carry four or more occupants, bike racks for cycles, and a volunteer team of more than 50 marshals to support the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
