CMAR Trail Races

The CMAR Trail Races take place in Chillicothe, Illinois, with the primary event hub located at Camp Wokanda. The course consists mostly of wooded single-track trails under a canopy, featuring rolling hills along the Illinois River Bluff. The terrain is described as slightly technical with rocks, roots, and ruts, and may become muddy depending on weather conditions.

Participants can choose from several distance options:

  • 100 Mile: A race consisting of four 25-mile loops with approximately 18,500 feet of elevation gain and a 36-hour cutoff.
  • 50 Mile: A two-loop course covering 50 miles with nearly 9,300 feet of elevation gain and a 22-hour cutoff.
  • 50K: A point-to-point style route involving loops and out-and-back sections with nearly 6,500 feet of elevation gain.
  • Half Marathon-ish: A route starting with a loop in Camp Wokanda followed by an out-and-back trek through the woods.

The event is held in July, and runners should prepare for typical Midwestern summer heat. Race headquarters at The Lodge serves as the start and finish point, offering registration packet pickup and post-race amenities. Several aid stations are positioned along the course, providing water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks. This is a cupless race, so participants are required to bring their own hydration vessels. Free camping is available at Lower Valley Park for participants, with restrooms and shower facilities on site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
