55th Cilcain Mountain Race

The 55th Cilcain Mountain Race is held on Monday 31st August at St Marys Church during the Cilcain Show in the Clwydian Range, North Wales. The main course is 7.4 km with 380 m of ascent and incorporates the Welsh Athletics Senior Short Inter-Regional Mountain Running Championships and the North Wales Regional Championships. Entrants who require Welsh Athletics affiliation checks should enter at least seven days before the event.

Entries close at 20:00 on Saturday 29th August and there are no entries on the day; show entry is handled separately. Junior races for U7 to U15 have free entry and take place behind the showground. The event lists a maximum entry of 250 competitors.

On-site facilities include toilets in the church and on the showground, water available at the start and finish points, and food and drink on the showground from midday. The Fell Inn will provide a post-race drink and snack on presentation of a race number. Entry fees are listed as £5 for seniors including booking fee, and an over 16 main race fee of £2.50. Nant Gain is a 7.6 km fell race around Cilcain with 370 m of ascent, night registration at The White Horse Pub and a £3 entry on the night. Parking is limited so car sharing and use of the viewpoint car park are recommended.

Free women only trail meet up on 28 June 2027 offering social runs of 5 to 10 km led by SheUltra Ambassadors. Loggerheads session includes a 10 km route; places are limited and parking is pay and display.

An approximately four mile multi terrain race on 2 July 2026, starting and finishing at Care & Repair on Rowley’s Drive in Shotton. Entry is £10 or £8 for affiliated club members and prizes are given across all age categories.

A fell race of 8.7 km with 700 m ascent around Moel Siabod, partially marked and requiring navigation. Entry on the day is £5 and junior races are included as part of the Capel Curig Village Festival.
