Quest of the White Wolf / Cold Rock races at Chimney Rock

This event at Chimney Rock, NC (431 Main St) offers out-and-back trail courses in multiple distances. The courses pass a waterfall that is visible from bottom to top and include an observation deck and long stair sections. Flagging on course uses red ribbon and yellow arrows. The route begins near a shelter and follows the Four Seasons Trail to stairs, then to the waterfall and observation deck before returning to the start/finish.

The route description notes a total of 1,000 stairs one way and an elevation gain of 1,883 feet per loop. Aid station provisions include basic food items such as pickles, cereal, pretzels, candy, fruit, and bacon, plus water, Tailwind, and various sodas; first aid supplies will be available. Medals are handmade pottery by BlueGill Pottery and are unique pieces.

Race rules state that bibs must be worn on the front and clearly visible, and that trekking poles are not allowed. Weather can vary and may include rain and fog. A 10 hour cutoff applies. Additional event rules: no dogs or strollers on course except by special exception, runners and walkers must finish within the time limit, entry fees are non-refundable if the event is canceled, and unregistered participants are not permitted.
