Chilterns Trail Marathon
The Chilterns Trail Marathon is a guided trail run covering 42.2 km (26.2 miles) through the Chiltern Hills. The route uses sections of the Ridgeway, trails through Nature Reserves and passes through Wendover Woods. The course includes rolling hills with about 500 m of ascent.
Runs are led by English Athletics qualified Run Leaders who handle navigation, offer technique tips and provide local information. Participants are grouped by ability; the organiser asks that runners can complete a half marathon on the flat in under 2.5 hours. Trail shoes are required.
Facilities at the event include toilets, a bag drop and checkpoints. There is a well stocked refreshment point with up to three refreshment stops, and a wooden Run the Wild finisher’s medal is provided. The event starts from the Iron Room near Tring Station; the station is about a three minute walk from the venue. Paid parking is available at Tring Station and limited free on-street parking may be possible.
The event format is group based with a run leader present throughout. The description notes potential wildlife sightings such as deer and red kites and that the route combines technical single track and more popular local trails. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
