A Different Type of Race

Catch Me if You Can! is a winter race series organized by the Yellowstone Rim Runners in Billings. The event features an unusual staggered start format where participants begin the race at different times based on their predicted pace. The slowest runners start first and the fastest runners start last, creating a competitive environment where the field is expected to finish around the same time. The series includes four distinct events held from December through April at various locations, including Swords Park, High Sierra, and Zimmerman.

The series consists of four races with increasing distances:

  • 4 km (The Chill)
  • 5 km (The Flurry)
  • 8 km (The Blizzard)
  • 10 km (The Thaw)

Participants earn points for each race they finish, with 25 points awarded for first place, decreasing by one point for subsequent positions. A minimum of 5 points is granted for participation, volunteering, or completing a first race. Cash prizes are awarded to the top five overall series winners at the conclusion of the season. Following the competition, the event provides hot drinks for the participants. The series is open to club members, with membership options available during the registration process.
