California Gold Rush Trail Run
The California Gold Rush Trail Run takes place inside Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma along the south fork of the American River. The event offers multiple race distances and runs regardless of weather. No strollers are allowed and there is a 4.5 hour time limit.
Courses combine singletrack dirt trails and some paved sections. Runners encounter moderately technical ascents and descents with switchbacks, rolling hills, and flat stretches, along with scenic views and wildlife. The 5K loop climbs to a high point and returns to the start; longer distances use additional loops and a steep fire road near the top.
Distances:
- Kids Run
- 1 Mile
- 5K
- 10K
- 15K
- Half Marathon
Elevation gain by distance is provided for each course, with the 5K listed at about 600 ft and the half marathon about 2,493 ft. The course is well marked with signs at intersections, chalk lines in key locations, mile markers and a halfway sign for the half marathon. Course marshals staff key intersections and runners are asked to keep bibs visible.
Two fully stocked aid stations and an additional water stop are available on course. Parking is at the north end of the park in the North Beach lot; a $10 parking fee per vehicle applies and Golden Poppy passes are accepted.
Online registration fees range from $25 for the Kids Run to $85 for the half marathon; race day fees are higher. Entry fees are non-refundable but may be transferred to a future TCTRuns event if arranged at least 24 hours before the scheduled event. Volunteers help staff aid stations and receive a free future race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
