California Gold Rush Trail Run - Fall
The event takes place inside Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma, California, along the south fork of the American River. Multiple race distances are offered, run on trails and a few paved sections.
Distances:
- Kids Run
- 1 Mile
- 5K
- 10K
- 15K
- Half Marathon
Courses combine singletrack dirt trails with some paved areas and include moderately technical ascents and descents, many switchbacks, rolling hills, and flat sections. The 5K makes a large clockwise loop and climbs about 600 feet. The 10K, 15K, and half marathon use additional loops including a steep half mile fire road and multiple laps of the Monroe Ridge Trail; ascent values range up to 2,493 feet for the half marathon.
The course is well marked with signs, chalk at important locations, mile markers, and a halfway sign for the half marathon. Course marshals staff key intersections. Two fully stocked aid stations plus a water stop are available on course; many runners pass these more than once.
Practical details: the event is held rain or shine, there is a 4.5 hour time limit, and strollers are not allowed. Parking is at the North Beach lot with a $10 per vehicle fee; Golden Poppy passes are accepted. Finishers of the 5K, 10K, 15K, and half marathon receive a medal.
