Trail Running in Coloma
The California Gold Rush Trail Run - Fall takes place within the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in the foothills of Coloma. This location sits along the south fork of the American River and is the historic site where gold was discovered in 1848. The park is located approximately 40 miles from Sacramento.
Participants can choose from several event distances:
- Kids Run
- 1 Mile
- 5K (600 ft elevation gain)
- 10K (1,286 ft elevation gain)
- 15K (1,834 ft elevation gain)
- Half Marathon (2,493 ft elevation gain)
The terrain consists of a mixture of singletrack dirt trails and select paved sections. The course features switchbacks, rolling hills, flat segments, and some moderately technical ascents and descents. The 5K loop follows the Monroe Ridge Trail, climbing roughly 500 feet above the meadows. Longer distances combine multiple loops and a steep half-mile fire road to reach their respective total elevations.
The event occurs rain or shine, and morning temperatures in Coloma can be low. Two fully stocked aid stations and a water stop are available on the course. All finishers in the 5K, 10K, 15K, and Half Marathon distances receive a medal. There is a total time limit of 4.5 hours for the event. Strollers are not permitted on the course.
