Bruce's Crown Race : overview

Bruce's Crown Race is scheduled for 11 to 12 April 2026 and is based at Caldons, near Glentrool in Galloway. The route is 46 miles long and crosses three hill ranges in Galloway: Minnigaff Hills, Rhinns of Kells and the Awful Hand, with more than 4000 metres of total climb. The event is for teams of 2 to 4 people; the minimum age is 18. Entry is by pre-selection list and entries open on 22 April 2025 and close on 5 April 2026. The entry fee is £75 per person (for example, £150 for a team of 2 and £300 for a team of 4).

Format, safety and logistics

Teams must stay together and check into each checkpoint as a complete team. Prizes are awarded for Teams of 4 and Teams of 2; a Team of 3 may be eligible in the Team of 2 prize category. If one or two runners retire from a Team of 4 at designated checkpoints, the remaining pair can continue as a Team of 2. If a runner retires from a Team of 2, the remaining runner cannot continue alone. There are two on-route cutoffs and an overall 24-hour time limit to complete the course. Three manned checkpoints will provide hot food, soup and drinks, and Mountain Rescue Team members will be stationed on the ranges. Camping at the event is included in the fee.
