Bruce's Crown Race - April 2026
Bruce's Crown Race is scheduled for 11 to 12 April 2026 at Caldons, near Glentrool in Galloway, Scotland. The event is organised by Galloway Mountain Rescue Team. The distance is 46 miles and entries are for teams of 2 to 4. Minimum age is 18. Entry fee is £75 per person (for example £150 for a team of 2, £300 for a team of 4). Entries open 22 April 2025 and close 5 April 2026. This event uses a pre-selection list process: entrants register without paying and may be offered a place later; payment is required only to confirm an offered place. Camping is included in the fee if requested at registration. Entries so far: 5.
Route, support and rules
The route crosses three Galloway hill ranges - Minnigaff Hills, Rhinns of Kells and the Awful Hand - and includes over 4000 metres of climbing. There are three manned checkpoints offering hot food, soup and drinks. Galloway Mountain Rescue Team will be stationed on the ranges for safety. The course has very few paths and testing underfoot conditions; good navigation skills are required. There are two on-route cutoffs and an overall 24-hour time limit. Teams must stay together and check in as a complete team. Rules allow 1 or 2 runners to retire from a team of 4 at designated checkpoints so remaining runners can continue as a team of 2; a lone runner cannot continue if a team member from a team of 2 retires. Prizes are awarded for Teams of 4 and Teams of 2; teams of 3 may be eligible in the Team of 2 category. Proceeds after expenses will be donated to Galloway Mountain Rescue Team.
