Bruce's Crown Race
Bruce's Crown Race is a long-distance team event taking place 11 to 12 April 2026, with start and finish at Caldons near Glentrool, Newton Stewart in Galloway. The route covers 46 miles across three hill ranges in Galloway : Minnigaff Hills, Rhinns of Kells and the Awful Hand : and includes more than 4000 metres of ascent.
The route has very few paths, variable underfoot conditions and requires navigation skills. There are three manned food checkpoints offering soup, hot food and drinks. Mountain rescue teams are stationed on the three ranges to provide on-route safety support.
Teams of 2 to 4 compete and must remain together, checking into each checkpoint as a complete team. Teams of 3 may be eligible for the Team of 2 prize category. From a Team of 4, one or two runners may retire at designated checkpoints and the remaining competitors can continue as a Team of 2. If a runner retires from a Team of 2 the remaining runner cannot continue alone. The route includes two intermediate cutoffs and an overall 24 hour cutoff to finish.
Entries are allocated using pre-selection lists. Entry fee is £75 per person which equates to £150 for a team of 2 and £300 for a team of 4. Camping is included in the fee and can be indicated at registration. The event offers an option to purchase XCover for potential refunds and proceeds after expenditure will be donated to the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team for their new base development.
