Bruce's Crown Race

Glentrool, United Kingdom • 11-12 Apr 2026

Event details

Bruce's Crown Race takes place 11 to 12 April 2026 at Caldons, Glentrool in Galloway. The event is for teams of 2 to 4 runners; minimum age is 18 on the event date. Entries use a pre-selection list to allocate places. Entries open 22 April 2025 and close 5 April 2026. The entry fee is £75 per person. Camping at the event is included in the fee if requested at registration. There is an option to purchase XCover insurance for possible refunds. Proceeds after expenditure will be donated to Galloway Mountain Rescue Team.

Course, support and rules

The route is about 46 miles across three Galloway hill ranges: Minnigaff Hills, Rhinns of Kells and the Awful Hand, with total ascent over 4000 metres. There are three manned food checkpoints serving soup, food and drinks, and mountain rescue teams will be stationed on the three ranges. The route has very few paths and testing underfoot conditions, so navigation skills are required. There are two on-route cutoffs and an overall 24-hour time limit to complete the event.

Teams must stay together and check into each checkpoint as a complete team. Prizes are awarded to Teams of 4 and Teams of 2; Teams of 3 are eligible for the Team of 2 prize category. Runners may retire at designated checkpoints: one or two runners may retire from a Team of 4 allowing the remainder to continue as a Team of 2; a runner retiring from a Team of 2 means the remaining runner is also retired.
