Wasdale Show Fell Race

The Wasdale Show fell race is a featured event within the British Open Fell Runners Association (BOFRA) calendar, serving as a championship counter. Located at Wasdale Head in West Cumbria, the event takes place in conjunction with the local Wasdale Head Show.

The course covers a distance of 3.80 km (2.40 miles) and involves 700 meters (2300 feet) of total ascent. The route is characterized by a significant climb to the summit of Kirk Fell, featuring steep gradients for both the upward and downward sections of the race.

Participants are organized into several age categories:

  • Under 12
  • Under 14
  • Under 17
  • Seniors

Due to the nature of the terrain and location, specific safety kit requirements are mandatory for all runners. Specifically, Under 12 and Under 14 participants must carry a waterproof jacket with taped seams. Runners in the Under 17 and Senior categories are required to carry a waterproof jacket and trousers (both with taped seams), as well as a hat and gloves. The organizers enforce these kit rules strictly, and fluorescent jackets without taped seams are not considered sufficient. There is no category available for Under 9s at this specific event.
