BMF Hounslow Training 17km Course
This is a guided training run on the Hounslow 17 km course in the Blue Mountains, starting at Twin Falls Road in Blackheath. The route follows the cliff top track to Govetts Leap and Evans Lookout, descends the stairs into the Grand Canyon, loops via Neates Glen, then returns to Evans Lookout, Govetts Leap and the start. An optional extra distance or early turn around is available during the session.
The course crosses steep terrain, stairs and single track trails through the Grose Valley and features over 900 m of elevation gain and loss. It represents the first 17 km of the Marathon course. Organisers hold a National Parks and Wildlife Service ECO PASS licence and insurance to run guided training sessions on this course.
Three pace groups will operate during the session: MIGHTY TURTLES, a medium paced group, and HARES. Organisers state they do not leave participants behind and will provide guidance on race preparation, gear, nutrition, pacing and course specifics. Participants are asked to carry the Hounslow Classic mandatory gear and to bring enough fuel and hydration for around five hours on foot, accounting for walking and jogging.
Minimum age for this training run is 14. Fees are A$85 for standard entry and A$60 for ages 14 to 17. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
