BMF Hounslow Training - 17km Course

This is a guided training run on the Hounslow course in the Blue Mountains, starting at Twin Falls Road, Blackheath, New South Wales. The session follows the cliff top track to Govetts Leap and on to Evans Lookout, then descends multiple stairs into the Grand Canyon, follows the loop to Neates Glen and returns via Evans Lookout and Govetts Leap to the start. The planned distance is 17km with optional extra kilometres or early turn options. The 17km route represents the first 17km of the marathon course and includes over 900 m of elevation gain and loss.

Blue Mountains Fitness holds a National Parks and Wildlife Service ECO PASS licence and insurance to run training on this course. The session is presented by experienced run trainers with many Hounslow and Ultra Trail Australia finishes; trainers provide guidance on race preparation, mandatory gear, nutrition, pacing, aid stations and race strategy. Three pace groups will be offered: MIGHTY TURTLES, a medium-paced group, and HARES. The organisers state that participants will not be left behind.

Minimum age is 14. Participants are asked to bring the Hounslow Classic mandatory gear and enough food and hydration for up to about five hours on foot. A full information sheet and course map will be provided to participants prior to the training day. Fees are A$85 and A$60 for ages 14 to 17.
