Blorenge Fell Race

Blorenge Fell Race

The Blorenge Fell Race is a short up-and-down mountain fell race based at the Village Hall, Llanfoist near Abergavenny. The course covers 5.7 km (3.5 mi) with 485 m (1591 ft) of climb over mainly low-lying moorland and open fell, reaching up to approximately 600 m (2000 ft).

The route is mostly unmarked but follows obvious trails for much of the course. There is one section where finding the descent may be difficult; markers will be used to assist runners in that area. Terrain includes moderately challenging tracks and good fell paths, with some steep and technical sections on ascent and descent. Navigation skills are required in poor visibility. Weather can significantly affect conditions; waterproofs and full kit have been required in previous years. GPS may be used for route finding but must be declared to the race officer on the day for the runner to be recorded as non-competitive.

Practical details include registration from 10.30 and a minimum age of over 16. There is limited parking available; the venue is about a 30 minute walk from Abergavenny and lies directly on a cycle path with secure bike storage. Rail and bus connections to Abergavenny provide public transport options. Entry is £6 pre-entry with no entry on the day. The event is insured by WFRA.
