Blorenge Fell Race

The race is a short, steep fell race of about 5.7 km with approximately 485 m of ascent, held from the Village Hall, Llanfoist, near Abergavenny (NP7 9LP, GR SO 287134). The course is a straight up and down mountain route on mainly low-lying moorland and open fell, reaching roughly 600 m in height.

The route is mostly unmarked but follows obvious trails for much of the way. One descent section can cause navigational issues and will be marked to help runners locate the main line down. The ascent and descent are on very steep, often technical terrain; runners are advised to regulate speed on descents and to run within their technical ability. In poor weather wind, rain and fog can make navigation harder; basic navigation and mountain skills are helpful. GPS may be used for route finding if the race organiser is informed on the day so the runner can be recorded as non-competitive.

Other practical information: minimum age is over 16. Entry is by pre-entry only, fee £6, with no entry on the day. Parking at the venue is limited. Active travel options include a direct cycle path with bike storage and a walk of around 30 minutes from Abergavenny; the train station is about a 40 minute walk. Course records: male 33:06 (2021), female 38:13 (2021). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
