BigWayRound - Winchester

BigWayRound is a trail running event held as part of the Winchester Trail Festival on Monday 4 May 2026. The event is based at Winchester Rugby Club, Nuns Walk, Winchester, SO23 7EF, with courses routed through the surrounding countryside.

Runners can choose from four distances:

  • 14 miles - £38
  • 19 miles - £42
  • Marathon - £52
  • 50K Ultramarathon - £56

The route follows local trails and established long-distance paths. It runs along the Itchen Navigation, ascends past St Catherine’s Hill, crosses the trails to Cheesefoot Head and continues along the South Downs Way, Allan King Way, St Swithun’s Way and the Itchen Way. Much of the course runs beside the River Itchen and passes Avington Hall.

The course is fully marked and marshalled and includes well stocked aid stations and on-course photographers. Bag drop tents will be available in the start/finish area. Parking is provided free at Winchester Rugby Club for the Marathon and 50K, and at River Park Car Park for the 19 mile and 14 mile entries. Canicross entries are not accepted. Runners are required to carry at least 500 ml of fluid; hydration vests or handheld soft flasks are permitted. Organisers advise downloading the GPX file for personal navigation. Run Silchester is an annual village trail event offering 2.5, 5 and 7 mile routes that pass a Roman wall, a 12th-century church and woodland. The event raises funds for the Silchester Sports Pavilion Charity and supports a local food pantry..

Experience an off road five mile race through the picturesque North Wessex Downs. Follow woodland tracks and rural footpaths on a course starting in Hurstbourne Tarrant with all proceeds supporting local charities.

A Backyard Ultra on private wildlife trails at Chilton Manor Farm with fields, woodland and a high point at Bugmore Hill Trig Point offering views across the South Downs. The loop returns to an event camp with signage from nearby towns.

Spring trail races in Harewood Forest featuring 5k, 10k, canicross and a children's fun run on undulating forest and field routes. Pre-registration only; proceeds support local playing fields and school PTA.
