Big Timber XC Challenge
Big Timber XC Challenge is a trail running event held at Camp Big Timber in Elgin, Illinois. The event offers multiple distances and a Kids Fun Run on grass that does not cross the creek. Registered participants receive event shirts and a pancake breakfast prepared by Scouts.
The course starts on the driveway in front of the Main Lodge, follows a gravel road for the first half mile, then moves onto mowed grass pathways up a small hill and around a perimeter circuit. The route returns down the small hill to the gravel road at the same location as the start. Most of the course is on gravel driveways, open grass and wide mowed pathways, with a few short single-track dirt sections.
Runners should expect natural trail conditions: uneven ground, exposed roots and rocks, low branches, wet or marshy sections, and a creek crossing about 15 feet wide. Water depth can vary with weather from ankle to knee height and will be cold in November. Because of these conditions, participants are advised to bring a change of clothes and footwear for after the race.
Additional details: awards for overall and age group finishers, automatic raffle entry with presence required to claim prizes, special swag options for early registrants, limited parking at the venue, and proceeds benefit the Boy Scouts of America Three Fires Council and the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin.
