The Big Timber XC Challenge is a trail running event held on November 8, 2026, at Camp Big Timber in Elgin, Illinois. The event features two main race distances and a children's run.

- 5 Mile Run
- Kids Fun Run (1/4 mile, for participants 10 years old and younger)
Course Details
The race takes place on a perimeter trail around the Camp Big Timber property. The course consists of grass, gravel, dirt pathways, and a creek crossing approximately 15 feet wide. Runners should expect natural trail conditions including uneven ground, tree roots, rocks, and the possibility of mud. The 5-mile run consists of two loops of the course. The Kids Fun Run is held on grass and gravel and does not include the creek crossing.
Event Information
All registered participants receive a shirt and a pancake breakfast prepared and served by Scout volunteers. Participants who register by a specific date in October for the 3-mile or 5-mile events have a choice of a flannel shirt or pants with an event patch. The event is part of the Dick Pond Athletics Darn Tough Trail Race Series. Awards are given for overall winners and age groups in the main races, and all Kids Fun Run participants receive an award.
Proceeds from the event support the Boy Scouts of America Three Fires Council and the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin. The event is sponsored by Dick Pond Athletics, Saucony, Pollyanna Brewing, and Darn Tough. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
