Beast of Burden

Beast of Burden is a multi-discipline endurance event at Mt. Kessler in Fayetteville, Arkansas, organized by Ozark Off-Road Cyclist and the Ozark Trail Runners. The event lasts 24 hours plus one additional hour because of daylight savings. Profits are directed to trail preservation and trail development on Mt. Kessler.

Participants can enter as solo competitors or as part of a team. Team formats include Ultra teams (2 to 4 members), Endurance teams (5 to 7 members), and dual-sport teams that combine running and riding; dual-sport teams may use two timing chips so a runner and a rider can be on course at the same time. Teams receive timing chips that are exchanged in the Campout Zone.

The course uses two separate loops for runners and riders to reduce congestion. Loops are rotated every six hours and are each roughly 4 to 6 miles long. One loop is described as easier while the other offers more of a campfire atmosphere.

On-site amenities and activities include dinner and breakfast, trailside coffee, music, fire pits, a team spirit competition, physical therapy services, and bike support. The overall standing is determined by the number of completed laps. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
