The Beara Way Challenge is a mountain half-marathon event in County Cork. It takes place on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Course Details
The route covers 23.5 km with 1100 m of climb and follows sections of the Beara Way walking trail. Registration is in Castletownbere Town Centre. The race starts outside the town on the Derrintaggert Road. The course includes an ascent of Knockoura Mountain and Mish Kish mountain, with descent routes returning to the Beara Way trail. The finish is back in Castletownbere Town Centre. It is described as an open mountain route with sea views. The event has an early start option.
Mandatory Kit
All runners must bring a Level B mandatory kit to the race. This includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or equivalent. The specific kit to be carried during the race is finalized on the day. Runners must have a means to carry all required items.
Additional Notes
The route is fully marked. GPS devices are allowed. Due to potential high temperatures, carrying water is mandatory. Prizes are awarded for the top three male and female finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
