MTC POOKA

MTC POOKA is a single day ultramarathon of 38 miles. It forms Day 1 of the fourteen day MTC MizMal end to end challenge and follows most of the MizMal route as provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling, finishing at the Eccles Hotel in Glengarriff. The route starts at Mizen Road, Cloghane, Goleen and includes recorded ascent of 830.8 metres and descent of 892.5 metres.

Entrant numbers are limited to 20 race-only competitors with an additional allowance of 20 MizMal competitors, giving a maximum field of 40. Cut off times are set along the route based on a minimum average speed of 4 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. All finishers receive a bespoke POOKA medal and male and female champions receive trophies; trophies are noted as still in the design stage. Entry options and fees are stated as MTC POOKA £90.00 and MTC POOKA Plus Race Package £155.00 which includes an embroidered race shirt and hi viz race jacket when ordered at least four weeks before the event.

Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants only and are emailed approximately four weeks before the race. Organisers provide tracking devices with SOS function; competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps as provided, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and an emergency food pack.
