Barnsley Boundary Relay
The Barnsley Boundary Relay is a multi-terrain team race that follows the boundary of Barnsley MBC using the route of the Barnsley Boundary Long Distance Path. Teams consist of ten runners who each cover one of ten legs on roads, tracks and footpaths. The total distance is roughly 72 miles (about 115 km) with 7,350 ft (2,240 m) of ascent.
The event is organised by Penistone Footpath Runners with Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club and support from other local running clubs. Entries are accepted from running clubs, organisations or businesses. Some legs require navigation or prior knowledge; there are opportunities to be shown the route before the event. GPX files and maps are available for all ten legs.
The race is held under licence from the Trail Running Association. Minimum ages apply by leg: legs 1, 5, 8 and 10 have a minimum age of 16, and the other legs have a minimum age of 17. Team times are aggregated across all legs and results are published by category. A prize ceremony is held in the evening after the race.
