Badger Challenge
The Badger Challenge is scheduled for 26 February 2027 at Beacon Hill Country Park, LE12 8TA (Lower Car Park), United Kingdom. Parking at the venue is charged between £2.50 and £5.50 for the day and accepts card or coin. The nearest train station is Loughborough, about 6 miles away.
The event is a timed six hour format in which participants complete as many laps of a 3.3 mile off-road loop as they wish within the time limit. A marathon distance corresponds to eight laps and a half marathon to four laps. Participants may run, hike or walk the course.
The lap climbs from the lower car park for the first half and descends on the second half. The route uses well maintained crushed stone pathways and can be mucky depending on weather; it is described as physically demanding but not technical underfoot. A trig point is located near the top but is not on the official route and is optional to visit.
Dogs are permitted and canicross is allowed; leads should be kept short and users must follow the event's canicross rules. Rucking is also supported. A GPX file of the route is available for download, though the route may be subject to last minute changes and will be marked on race day.
Entry fees are tiered: £38 before 26 January 2027 and £43 after that date; unaffiliated entrants pay an additional £2. The event has been held at Beacon Hill since 2022 and received a Gold Racecheck award in 2024. Participants receive a medal or may choose a Big Bear Tree Token instead, which contributes to tree planting and includes wildflower seeds. The event partners with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and fundraising or donations made at entry are passed on to the charity.
