Badger Challenge

The Badger Challenge is a six-hour off-road event held at Beacon Hill Country Park, LE12 8TA, using the lower car park as the start area. The route is a loop of 3.3 miles on well maintained crushed stone paths. The first half of the lap climbs toward the trig point while the second half descends back to the start. The trig point is visible but not on the official route.

Participants may run, hike, or walk and complete as many laps as they wish within the six-hour time limit. Examples of target distances:

  • Half marathon : 4 laps
  • Marathon : 8 laps

Underfoot conditions are generally decent but can be mucky depending on weather. The course is described as physically demanding on the climbs yet not technical underfoot. The venue offers views from the higher sections of the park. Parking at the lower car park is payable and typically costs between £2.50 and £5.50 for the day; payment by card or coin is accepted. The nearest train station is Loughborough, about six miles from the park.

Canicross is permitted; dogs must be on short leads and handlers should be considerate of other participants. The event has been held at Beacon Hill Country Park from 2022 onwards and follows a tiered entry fee structure. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
