Event Format

The Rasselbock Backyard Ultra is a last-person-standing event. There is no fixed time or distance. Participants must run the same 4.161-mile (approx. 6.7 km) loop every hour, on the hour. The event continues until only one runner remains to start a lap. Participants can finish at any time.

Event Details

The 2026 event is held at Hardwick Hall Estate in Derbyshire. The course uses estate trails and farmlands. The route is described as flat, with a preliminary elevation of 69 meters. The surface is a mix of natural woodland, farmland tracks, and some tarmac. A dedicated aid station provides water, squash, cola, sweets, fruit, and cake. First aid is available on-site. There is an area for support crews.

Participation

The event had 190 places and a waitlist of over 200 for 2025. A discount is offered to runners who have completed more than 40 laps in a backyard ultra within the last two years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Trail runs nearby

A ladies only trail half marathon in Sutton Scarsdale following a scenic out and back route under the April full moon. Enjoy campfire refreshments and a supportive atmosphere while raising funds for Women’s Aid.

A short fell race in Wirksworth that climbs to a trig point and returns over trails and fields. The main course is about 6.9 km and there are separate short and junior races for younger runners.

A 230 km trail challenge over 75 hours on the Pennine Bridleway with GPX navigation, two indoor checkpoints offering hot meals and sleeping space, and a small capped field with finish medals and trophies.

Trail runs at Thoresby Park on 18 April 2026 span from a 2km family run to a half marathon across parkland. Canicross and Nordic walking options are available and finishers receive merchandise, a medal and a snack.
