Backyard Ultra (Lite) - Sunday Sep 20, 2026, Otway

Backyard Ultra (Lite) is the second edition presented by Caledonia Nordic Race Teams at Otway (8141 Otway Rd). The event features two classes: Recreation and Almost an Ultra.

The Recreation class accepts solo runners aged 14+ and relay teams of two aged 12+. Each relay member runs four loops in any order. Loops are 3.35 km long. The required finish time per loop starts at 30 minutes and decreases by one minute each lap, reaching 23 minutes. The number of loops is capped at 8, totaling 26.8 km. Prizes are planned for the first male and female finishers and for the first relay team, with additional category prizes and periodic draw prizes. Finish-line snacks and drinks are listed, along with music, food, and an opportunity to try biathlon.

The Almost an Ultra class is open to participants 16+. It continues after the Recreation classes and follows the same rule of reducing the lap time by one minute each lap. Winners are the last male and female to complete a lap, or the first across the line on the final lap that everyone is willing to run. Prizes will be announced.

Early-bird registration is open until Sep 19. Listed fees are: 30 USD Rec solo, 50 USD Rec team, 50 USD Almost an Ultra. The second relay member must register separately for 3 USD and pay a Tier 3 license fee. Ages are calculated as of Dec 31, 2026. A map of the course is available.
