Backyard Ultra Running Challenge

Backyard Laramie is a last runner standing endurance event held in Laramie, Wyoming. The competition follows the traditional backyard ultra format, where participants must complete a 4.17 mile loop every hour on the hour. Each completed lap is referred to as a "yard". The event continues until only one runner remains to successfully complete a lap within the hourly time limit.

The course is located at the Pilot Hill Recreational Trailhead and consists of a gravel path. Each loop includes approximately 220 feet of elevation gain. The route is slightly longer than the standard backyard distance. Competition categories are divided into male and female, with the final winners receiving the titles of Pronghorn King and Queen.

Participants should be prepared for various weather conditions common to Wyoming, such as snow, rain, wind, and sun. Required gear includes a headlamp with extra batteries for those running into the night, as well as a phone or communication device. While some food and water are provided at the aid station, runners are encouraged to bring their own supplies and a chair for rest periods between laps.

Registration for this event is free of charge. The host organization, the High Plains Harriers, accepts donations to cover event costs and to support trail maintenance in southeastern Wyoming. Parking is available along Willett Drive. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
