Med Bow Rail Marathon & Half Marathon

The Med Bow Rail Marathon & Half Marathon on August 15, 2026 is organized by the Friends of the Medicine Bow Rail Trail. Both events take place within the Medicine Bow National Forest near Lake Owen and Albany, Wyoming, at high elevation around 9,030 feet.

The trail is a wide, gently graded gravel pathway that runs through aspen and conifer forests, open clearings, and areas affected by past burns. The marathon follows the Rail Trail end-to-end and finishes with a loop around Lake Owen. The half marathon includes two loops around Lake Owen and uses a portion of the Rail Trail. Course maps and route descriptions are provided for participants.

Races are timed and fully staffed with five aid stations. The start and finish area is at Lake Owen near Albany, WY. All participants receive a race t-shirt and all finishers receive a finisher medal.
