Pilot Hill 25k
Laramie, United States • 30 May 2026
Event Overview
The Pilot Hill 25K Classic is noted as the oldest continuously run footrace in Wyoming, with origins tracing back to the 1970s. The event offers two race distances: a 25K and a 10K.
Course and Terrain
The 25K course uses rugged two-track and single-track trails. It traverses sandy flats, low-grade hills, and climbs over weathered limestone to the summit of Pilot Hill, which sits at an elevation of 8600 feet. From the summit, views include the Laramie Valley, the Snowy Range of the Medicine Bow Mountains to the west, and Colorado's Rawahs and Front Range to the south. The 10K course features sections of crushed gravel path and single track, with views of the Snowy Range, Jelm Mountain, Sheep Mountain, and Laramie Valley.
Logistics and Rules
The event is a cupless race; participants must bring their own bottle, cup, or water bladder as no cups are provided at aid stations. There are two aid stations on the 25K course, one offering water and Skratch, and another at the summit offering water, Skratch, and snacks. A cut-off time of 4 hours and 30 minutes applies for the 25K, and 3 hours and 30 minutes for the 10K.
Post-Race and Community Impact
Following the race, food and refreshments are available at the finish line. A portion of the event's proceeds is donated to Pilot Hill Inc., an organization focused on building a recreation and wildlife habitat area, protecting water sources, and conserving winter range for wildlife.
Awards
Awards are given to the top three runners in both the 25K and 10K distances, for male and female categories, across three age groups: 0-34, 35-49, and 50+. There is also a prize for the final finisher. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
