Bachelor Ascent
Bachelor Ascent is a trail running event held at the Mt. Bachelor Ski Area within the Deschutes National Forest. Located 20 minutes west of Bend, Oregon, the event utilizes the volcanic alpine scenery and rugged terrain of the mountain. All race courses are designed to ascend to the 9,000-foot summit of Mt. Bachelor.
The event features four distinct distances:
- 50K: A loop course with a $10,000 prize purse for top finishers.
- 28K: A loop course traversing mountain terrain.
- 16K: A loop course reaching the mountain summit.
- Vertical Ascent 5K: A direct uphill course to the summit.
The staging area is located at Mt. Bachelor’s West Village. Registration fees include a marked course, chip timing, live results, and full-service aid stations. Participants receive medical support, post-race food and beverages, professional photography, and a custom finisher award. Top three male and female finishers in each category receive additional awards.
The race takes place in a mountain environment where weather conditions may change rapidly. Organizers may require specific mandatory gear depending on the forecast. For those traveling from outside the region, the nearest major airport is Portland International (PDX), with regional options in Redmond (RDM) and Eugene (EUG). Parking and overnight RV or car camping are available on-site for a fee, though no designated campgrounds or lodges are located directly at the ski area.
