Bachelor Ascent is a mountain trail running event at Mt. Bachelor Ski Area in the Deschutes National Forest, 20 minutes west of Bend, Oregon. The event offers the following distances:

  • Vertical Ascent 5K

Each race runs on volcanic alpine terrain and ascends to the 9,000 foot summit of Mt. Bachelor. Race day activities take place in Mt. Bachelor’s West Village area. Registration opens February 1, 2026.

Course, support and logistics

The registration fee covers a fully marked course, staging venue, parking, chip timing and results, full-service aid stations, medical support and communications, post-race food and beverages, a custom finisher award, livestream production and professional photography. Mandatory gear requirements may be implemented depending on the weather forecast. Weather can change rapidly in the mountain environment, especially above mid-mountain elevations.

RV and car camping is allowed on the paved parking area at Mt. Bachelor on Friday night with an overnight use fee paid through Mt. Bachelor; there are no designated camping areas or other lodging on the mountain. Nearest lodging is in Bend, about 20 minutes away. Podium finishers are recognized at an awards ceremony and all finishers receive a custom award. A raffle is held during the race. Mastondon is a scenic 10 mile trail race near Tumalo and Redmond, Oregon on March 1, 2026, with views of the Deschutes River and high desert. Presented by Nike Trail, every finisher gets a prize and post race food and beer await.

Enjoy spring trail running in Sisters, Oregon on May 3, 2026 with 50K and half marathon courses that showcase views of the Three Sisters. After the race enjoy burritos, beer and medals while supporting Ridgeview High School cross country.
