Austin's Backyard Marathon and Last Person Standing Challenge

Austin's Backyard Marathon is a backyard ultra format event held at Turkey Bend Recreation Area in the Texas Hill Country near Austin along the Colorado River. Participants run a repeated loop of 4.167 miles (6.706 km) each circuit and continue to start new loops until only one runner completes the final loop.

The event recognizes distance milestones with medals and awards:

  • Half marathon finisher recognition
  • Marathon finisher recognition
  • Ultra distance finisher recognition

Entry benefits include a custom event t-shirt, a finisher's medal, and stocked aid station support offering hydration, snacks, and basic medical assistance. The course surface is mixed roughly fifty percent trail and fifty percent paved, with some technical sections.

Camp sites are available at the park on a limited first come first served basis. Animals are not allowed at the event. Event staff enforce Leave No Trace practices; participants who litter may be disqualified. There is no refund policy for registrations, and the organizer may cancel or reschedule the event for severe weather or other circumstances beyond control.

Additional recognitions include awards for the overall last person standing and gender category leaders who complete the most loops, plus a Gladiator Award granted to any athlete who completes 100 miles within 24 hours on the official backyard ultra course while following all race rules.
