Askanagap Hill takes place in County Wicklow on Saturday 7th March 2026, near Aughrim and Sheilstown. The event is part of the 2026 South East and Leinster Winter Leagues. The location for registration is Askanagap Community Hall and the start is about 1.3–1.4 km from registration. Juniors may enter: M/F18 can enter the main race and other junior ages may use the short course only.

Course and distances

The long course is an 8.50 km loop that climbs about 522 m and runs clockwise from the top of the hill. The short course is an out-and-back to the summit.

The route begins with a short fire road to the forest edge, then single track that opens to a wider track alongside a fence to the top. The first 2.5 km includes about 300 m of climb. There is a 2 km descent of nearly 200 m, a steep 600 m climb through forest back to fireroad, a final climb of about 120 m over 0.5 km, and a 2.5 km descent to the finish. The short course follows the initial sections to the summit then returns to the start.

Kit, marking and logistics

Mandatory Level B kit must be carried: waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. The kit to be carried during the race may be finalised on the day. Only major junctions are marked on the course. GPS devices are not allowed. Parking at Askanagap is limited and carpooling is encouraged. Prizegiving location will be confirmed on the day and some prizes may be issued by email.
