ASF 5K : Event overview

The ASF 5K is listed with a course distance of 5.56k and is organized by the Alabama SWAT Foundation. The route starts and finishes at Brocks Gap Brewing Company and loops around Black Creek Mountain Bike Park. The course includes a partial trail section that takes place at sunset or during nighttime; a headlamp or flashlight is required for the trail portion. The event is limited to 300 runners and is open to participants aged 10 and older. Registration for listed events shows a fee of $35.

Divisions include:

  • Regular division - male and female, no added weight
  • Heavy division - male and female, must carry a 35 lb vest or ruck
  • Team Heavy - four individuals, each carrying a 35 lb vest or ruck, teams must finish together

All vests and rucks will be weighed after the race; failure to meet the 35 lb requirement makes a participant ineligible for awards.

Logistics and amenities

Parking is available at Hoover Met; Brocks Gap Brewing Company parking is not available except for handicapped spaces. There is a path and stairs from the parking lot to the brewery. Restrooms are available at the brewery and at the start line. A single water station is located at the entrance to the trail. Bag check is provided and bib numbers will be written on submitted bags. Bib and packet pick-up are scheduled the night before and on race day. Strollers are not allowed due to trail sections. The race will proceed rain or shine. The first 300 registered runners receive a t-shirt, finisher medal, and koozie; race day registration is available but items are not guaranteed.
