100 Mile Trail Race in the Ouachita Mountains
The Arkansas Traveller 100 is an ultrarunning event established in 1991, making it one of the oldest races of its distance in the United States. The course takes place within the Ouachita Mountains and utilizes a combination of forest roads, jeep trails, and an eight-mile section of the Ouachita Trail.
The route consists of a 100-mile distance, organized as an initial 17-mile loop followed by an 83-mile out-and-back section. Participants encounter a cumulative elevation gain of 12,000 feet throughout the course. The terrain features various hills and scenic mountain landscapes.
The event provides 23 fully stocked and staffed aid stations, positioned approximately every five miles along the route. Medical support is available on-site, including an EMT and a medical director. The race acts as a qualifying event for the Western States Endurance Run.
Registration is limited to 250 participants. Those who complete the distance receive a finisher's buckle, with specific designs based on finishing time:
- Sterling silver buckles for overall male and female winners.
- Colored enamel buckles for finishes under 24 hours.
- Bronze buckles for finishes over 24 hours.
Additional recognition includes wooden engraved plaques for overall winners, runners-up, and masters categories. A post-race breakfast is provided for participants on Sunday morning, with soup and other food items available for those who finish earlier.
