Grit and Guts Trail Race 2026
The Grit and Guts Trail Race is a trail running event held at Mount Nebo in Dardanelle, Arkansas. The course features a combination of vertical climbing sections and faster flowing segments on rocky terrain. Participants navigate multiple specific trails within the state park, including sections that ascend and descend the mountain twice for certain distances.
The event offers two distinct distance options:
- 13.1 Miles: Covers the Lizard Tail, Sunrise and Sunset connectors, Miller's Goat, and Ox Pull trails.
- 20 Miles: Includes the same trails as the shorter distance with the addition of the Chickalah Loop.
The route incorporates several scenic landmarks, such as Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, the 3C trail, and a seasonal waterfall along the Lizard Tail trail. The course utilizes the Rim trail and the Bench trail, with a significant 1.7-mile section on the Ox Pull trail that descends to the bottom of the area before requiring a climb back up. Aid stations are positioned every 4 to 6 miles throughout the course to support runners.
This event is organized as a free fun run, though participants have the option to purchase a commemorative unisex shirt. Proceeds from the event are donated to local cross country teams and the Friends of Nebo. Parking is designated for the two lots at Sunset Point and temporary parking across the road, while restroom facilities are located near the campground and pool area.
