Grit and Guts Trail Race

This trail race takes place on trails at Mount Nebo in Arkansas. It is structured as a "fun run" with free entry for participants.

Distances

Two distances are offered:

  • Half Grit and Guts (13.1 miles)
  • Full Grit and Guts (20 miles)

The course involves significant elevation change, described as equal parts vertical climb and fast, flowing trail. The terrain is rocky. The race begins at the Sunset Point parking lot and utilizes multiple named trails, including Lizard Tail, Rim Trail, Sunrise Connector, Bench Trail, Miller's Goat, Ox Pull Trail, and the Chickalah loop.

Course details: Runners start with a view from Sunset Point before descending. The route passes a seasonal waterfall and offers views of the river valley from Sunrise Point. For the 13.1-mile distance, the finish is via the Sunset Connector. The 20-mile distance includes an additional clockwise loop on the Chickalah trail before returning to the same finish.

Amenities and Logistics

The event provides aid stations approximately every 4-6 miles. Parking is available in two lots at Sunset Point and in temporary parking across the road. Participants are advised not to park at the visitor center. Bathrooms are located in the campground/pool area at the top of the mountain.

Volunteer opportunities are available. Proceeds from the event benefit local cross-country teams and the Friends of Nebo organization.
