Hare Mountain 100
The Hare Mountain 100 is a 100-mile point-to-point trail run held in late October at the Haw Creek Falls Recreation Area in Arkansas. It follows sections of the Ozark Highlands Trail, a National Scenic Trail, across the Boston Mountains in Northwestern Arkansas. The course covers approximately 100 miles of what is described as extremely difficult and remote terrain, including the highest point on the trail, Hare Mountain, at around 2,400 feet.
The route incorporates two scenic spur loops. The terrain is rugged and rocky, with forest cover of hardwood, cedar, and pine. Features include several creek crossings, waterfalls, bluffs, and sandstone outcrops. Measurements from GPS and topographic mapping estimate total elevation gain to be between 20,000 and 24,400 feet.
The event has a time limit of 38 hours for official completion. A finisher who arrives after the 38-hour mark but before the final aid station cutoff may still be counted as an official finisher. It is described as an advanced-level, graduate-level endurance event requiring runners to be self-sufficient.
Runners are required to carry a satellite GPS tracking device and have the course GPX file downloaded on a phone, which is checked at registration. The race is cupless; each runner receives a reusable cup at the start. Major aid stations can be up to 12 miles apart.
A 200-mile event is being planned for the same weekend. Registration and detailed information, including aid station details and course maps, are managed through external links. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
