Ardgillan is an Irish Mountain Running Association event held at Ardgillan Demesne in County Dublin on Wednesday 20th May 2026. The main route is approximately 8.99 km with 190 m of climb. The route classification is Difficulty 4 indicating easy terrain, under 200 m ascent and a 6 km to 10 km distance. The course is fully marked and GPS devices are permitted.

Distances

  • 8.99 km main course
  • Approx 5 km junior course

The course runs through parkland and includes rolling runnable hills, firm sand on a beach section, and a climb known locally as the Parkrun finish hill. A pedestrian footbridge called the Lady's Stairs crosses the road and railway and provides access to the beach; this section is highlighted as a technically awkward area. Marshals will be positioned at important turns and a turn on the beach will be clearly marked.

Entry is limited to 250 runners. Entry fees noted are €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. Registration is online only; no entries are taken at the event. Mandatory kit is Level A basic, specifically a showerproof, windproof jacket, and runners must be able to carry required kit. Random kit checks may be carried out and absence of required items can lead to refusal of entry or disqualification.

Arrival by car is via the M1 with parking directed to the top car park near the start area. Dublin Bus 33 serves Balbriggan and two nearby train stations are Balbriggan and Skerries, each just over 4 km from the demesne. There are composting toilets by the top car park and public facilities at the castle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
