The Sugar Bowl is a mountain running event on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. It takes place on the Sugarloaf mountain in County Wicklow.

Participants can choose from three routes:

  • Long Course: A 9 km loop with 575 m of climb.
  • Short Course: An out-and-back route covering 4.5 km.
  • Sugarloaf Challenge: A free, non-competitive 1 km fun run on a grassy slope.

The long course is a circuit of the mountain. It includes grassy banks, single tracks, technical trails, and steep climbs and descents. The route goes to the summit. The short course is an out-and-back route that does not go to the summit. The fun run is for walking or running up and down a grassy slope.

Event Details

The start time for the long course is 19:30. There is an early start option at 19:00. The short course starts at 19:35, and the fun run starts at 19:40. Registration opens at 18:00 and closes at 19:15.

All runners must bring specific mandatory kit, which includes a waterproof jacket, hat, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone, and a foil blanket or equivalent. The exact kit to be carried during the race will be confirmed on the day. Trail shoes are recommended.

Registration is online. Entry costs €7 for seniors, with reduced fees for over-65s and under-18s. There is an entry limit of 250 participants for the running events.
