Event overview
Sinister Night Runs is a night trail running event held in April at San Tan Mountain Regional Park in Queen Creek, Arizona. It is part of the Insomniac Night Trail Run Series and offers multiple distance options run on the same loop course. Distances offered include:
- 54K
- 27K
- 18K
- 9K
- 6K
Course and logistics
All distances use a roughly 9 km loop on the San Tan, Hedgehog and Littleleaf Trails. The 54K consists of six loops, the 27K three loops, the 18K two loops, and the 9K and 6K are single laps. The course is described as mostly smooth, runnable trails with a few rollers and some rocky sections. There is one remote aid station called San Tan Aid that runners pass every loop; the main aid station is stocked with water, ice, electrolyte drinks, salty and sweet snacks, fruit, pb&j, bean rollups, and hot food such as quesadillas and grilled cheese. Crews are allowed at the start/finish and drop bag storage is provided there. Pacers are allowed only for 54K runners beginning on loop 5. Each distance has a published time limit (for example, the 54K has a 10-hour limit). Park entry requires a $7 fee per vehicle, pets are not allowed on-course, and camping is not permitted. The event uses chip timing, live tracking, and provides finisher recognition and race apparel. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
