Dam Good Run
The Dam Good Run is an annual trail running event held in April at Lake Pleasant Regional Park in Morristown, Arizona. The course takes participants through the Sonoran Desert landscape, featuring single-track trails with Saguaro cacti and desert vegetation. Established routes include crossings of the New Waddell Dam and paths along the lake shoreline.
Participants can choose from several distances:
- 40 km (Dam Insane) - Includes a crossing of New Waddell Dam, a climb to Yavapai Point, and a raft crossing at Pipeline Cove.
- 26 km - Part of the Sonoran Desert Cup, featuring rugged single-track trail with climbs and descents.
- 13 km - A trail route that utilizes the Roadrunner Trail and crosses the dam.
- 4 mile - An out-and-back course designed for runners and walkers.
- 2 mile - A shoreline route that turns around at the visitor center without crossing the dam.
The event operates as a cupless race to reduce its environmental footprint, meaning runners must bring their own reusable containers. Aid stations are positioned along the courses at intervals ranging from 1.5 to 5.4 miles, providing water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks. Some stations on the longer courses offer more substantial food options.
The 40 km distance has a total elevation gain of 2,716 feet and an 8-hour time limit. The event includes chip timing, finisher awards, and a post-race beer garden benefiting Wilderness Volunteers. There is a required entry fee for Maricopa County Parks for those without an annual pass. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
