Course, support and rules
The full marathon is made of two 13.1-mile loops and includes climbing the 605 steps of the Appalachian Approach Trail twice. The half marathon and full marathon courses are signed and flagged. Elevation change is listed as about 3,200 feet for the half and 6,400 feet for the full. Trail surface is about 83% singletrack and 17% gravel or paved.
Support includes two fully stocked aid stations, professional timing, race shirt or hat option, a finisher medal, and race photos and videos provided after the event. Awards are given by overall, masters, and age categories; first-place overall winners in each race receive free entry for the next year. The race enforces course completion rules - no cutting and all flags must be punched for credit. Trekking poles are allowed. Crew access is limited to the start/finish area. No pacers are allowed. No refunds are issued; entries may be transferred to another racer in the same event until five days before the event. The Race Director has discretion to apply penalties up to disqualification.
