This trail event offers both a full marathon and a half marathon on established park trails that pass waterfalls, creeks, overlooks, and mountain scenery. The courses are signed and flagged and include the Appalachian Approach Trail steps beside the falls.

Distances

  • Marathon : two 13.1 mile loops, 6,400 ft elevation gain/loss
  • Half Marathon : one 13.1 mile loop, 3,200 ft elevation gain/loss

The route begins at the top of the falls, descends the East Ridge Trail, follows Mountain Laurel Trail, returns via the Appalachian Approach Trail and includes the Len Foote Trail and sections toward the Hike Inn. Runners ascend the 605 steps of the Appalachian Approach Trail during each loop of the full marathon.

Trail surface is approximately 83% singletrack and 17% gravel or paved. Two fully stocked aid stations provide food, drinks, and medical support. The event uses professional timing services and offers free race photos and videos after the race. Participants receive a race shirt or hat and a finisher medal made from metal.
