Alf Shrubb Memorial - 10k & 5k
Following a 2024 relaunch, the Alf Shrubb Memorial returns to Slinfold to raise funds for local Slinfold village causes. The event offers adult and children’s races and takes place around the West Sussex countryside.
- 10k: two slightly different laps on footpaths, bridleways and trails
- 5k: single loop on the same mixed trail course
The adult races are chip timed. The 10k finishes at the local cricket club, which is also the event HQ and number collection point for the children’s races. A professionally led warm up is planned for the main race before competitors move to the 10k start on Clapgate Lane; the 5k is planned to start on the cricket field. The start may be led by the local fire brigade if circumstances permit.
Refreshments will include tea, coffee, soft drinks and cakes, and the cricket club bar will be open. There are ladies only toilets. All adult race finishers receive a replica world record medal. Individual awards will be given across age groups and to the top male and female Slinfold residents.
The event honours local runner Alf Shrubb and will display a pair of his running shoes at the cricket club. Recent years saw increased entries, with the 2025 10k reaching capacity and the inaugural 5k attracting over 100 runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
