Alf Shrubb Memorial - 10k & 5k
The Alf Shrubb Memorial returns to Slinfold to raise funds for local community causes. The event offers both a 10k race and a 5k option. Adult races are chip timed. Children’s races take place at Slinfold Cricket Club, which is the event headquarters and the main race finish location. A special guest runner is listed for the event.
Course, facilities and awards
Both races are mixed trail courses through West Sussex countryside using local footpaths, bridleways and trails. The 10k uses two slightly different laps with the finish at the cricket club; the 5k is a single loop on the same course. The 10k start is on Clapgate Lane and the 5k is planned to start on the cricket field. A professionally run warm-up is planned before the main race.
Refreshments including tea, coffee, soft drinks and cakes will be available, and the cricket club bar will be open. There are ladies-only toilets. Free parking will be available, and organizers note Downs Link access for walking or cycling to the village. All adult race finishers receive a medal. Additional awards include age-group prizes and awards for the top male and female Slinfold residents. Event profits are shared across local village causes including the primary school, cricket club, scouts, church, village hall and the Butterfly Project.
