Alf Shrubb Memorial - 10k & 5k
The Alf Shrubb Memorial Races take place in Slinfold on 13 September 2026 and raise funds for local community causes. The event includes mixed trail races that use local footpaths, bridleways and trails through the West Sussex countryside and finish on the cricket pitch at Slinfold Cricket Club.
Distances available:
- 10k - two scenic laps finishing at Slinfold Cricket Club
- 5k - one lap following a closely similar scenic route
- One-mile children's race (ages 8–11) featuring the Inter-Schools Challenge Trophy
- 5–7 year-old race held at Slinfold Cricket Club
All races are chip timed. The cricket club serves as event headquarters for race number collection and warm-ups, and a professionally led warm-up takes place on the cricket field before runners move to the start on Clapgate Lane. A pair of Alf Shrubb’s running shoes, normally held at Horsham Museum, will be on display at the Cricket Club on race day.
Facilities at the venue include refreshments, homemade cakes and a fully licensed bar, plus additional ladies-only toilets and parking arrangements. Awards include a bespoke replica Alf Shrubb medal for all finishers, certificates for prize category winners, and prizes for top finishers and age-group winners.
