Event Overview
The Acorn Creek Trail Run is a trail running event taking place near the Acorn Creek Trailhead at Salmon Falls Ranch, south of Pilot Hill, California. The event is a fundraiser for the American River Conservancy, a non-profit conservation organization, with proceeds supporting trail work and maintenance in the area. The event is directed by the Bizz Running Company.
Distances
The event offers two race distances:
- Half Marathon (approximately 21.1 km)
- 10K (approximately 10.5 km)
The course has a 5-hour time limit for both distances.
Course Description
The course showcases trails in the Gold Country foothills east of Folsom Lake. The terrain includes single-track trails, creek crossings, climbs, and views. The start and finish line is on Main Street near the Boneyard Trail Junction. The 10K consists of one lap of the full course. The Half Marathon consists of two laps; runners pass through the start/finish line after the first lap to receive a split time before beginning the second identical lap.
Aid Stations
There are several aid and hydration stations on the course:
- Aid Station #1/#3 at the Folsom Lake Overlook offers fruit, snacks, gels, water, and electrolyte drink.
- A self-serve, hydration-only station is located at the start of the Cattle Chute Trail climb.
- Aid Station #2 at the Start/Finish line has fruit, snacks, gels, water, and electrolyte drink, primarily for half marathon runners between laps.
Logistics
Packet pickup is available on the Friday before the event at Gold Country Run + Sport in El Dorado Hills, or on race day at the start area. Parking at the Acorn Creek Trailhead is limited. Additional parking is available at the Skunk Hollow boat ramp, with a free shuttle service to the venue. A Poppy Pass is required to park at Skunk Hollow. Carpooling is encouraged.
Awards
The race is chip-timed. Awards are given to the top 3 overall male, female, and non-binary winners for each distance. Age group awards are given to the top winner in 10-year categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
