Event overview

The 6 Inch Trail Marathon takes place on the Munda Biddi Trail between North Dandalup and Dwellingup in the South West of Western Australia, about 80 km south of Perth. The event offers two distances:

  • ~47.5 km marathon (course also described as ~46 km on other pages)
  • ~23.3–23.4 km half marathon

Course elevation for the marathon is about 925 m climb and 775 m descent. The half marathon has about 340 m climb and 360 m descent. The course runs through national forest, some residential areas, campgrounds and water catchment areas.

Logistics and race rules

Participants must be at least 18 years old. Gear checks are compulsory and are carried out in the week before the race and at the race village the day before. Mandatory equipment includes 1 litre of water and a mobile phone. A compulsory first aid kit must include a minimum snake/compression bandage, strapping tape, band aid strips and is recommended to include a survival blanket.

There are two official aid stations at 23 km and 34 km where water, energy drinks, fruit and lollies are provided; marathon runners are expected to carry their own food and hydration. One drop bag is permitted at Aid Station 1 (23 km) and will be transported to the finish after all participants pass. Crewing is allowed only at Aid Station 2 (34 km); pacing and support along the course are prohibited. The course is marked with fluorescent pink tape and red arrows.
