1776 Merica
1776 Merica is a patriotic running event held in Madisonville, Tennessee, at the Madisonville Kefauver Pavilion. The event offers both in-person and virtual options and lists two main distances.
- 17.76 miles
- 7.4 miles
The course uses the Kefauver greenway and the Madisonville Bike Trail. The route begins at the pavilion, follows the greenway around Kefauver Lake for approximately the first mile, returns past the pavilion and playground, crosses the road, and continues onto the bike trail. The bike trail section is described as a roughly one mile lollipop with minimal elevation. The field layout requires multiple loops on the Kefauver Greenway loop: the shorter distance comprises three and a half loops and the longer distance comprises eight and a half loops.
A ruck division is available. Ruck participants must use rucksacks only; weighted vests and other plate carriers are not permitted. Weight requirements are specified by category: men 30 lb dry, female 20 lb dry, boys under 15 20 lb, girls under 15 10 lb. Weight must be in clearly stamped plates or similar items and removal or reduction of weight during the event is not authorized; the event operates on an honor system.
Additional event features include custom Merica bibs and awards, patriotic music, encouragement of patriotic attire with rewards, and a post event hot dog cookout. A five hour course cutoff applies to all events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
