Trail Running on the Pinhoti

The Georgia Jewel is a long-standing trail running event held in Dalton, Georgia. The race primarily utilizes the Pinhoti trail, featuring a course consisting of 99% single-track paths. Participants navigate diverse terrain, including ridgeline sections, a significant climb known as Mt. Baker, and technical rock gardens.

The event offers four distinct distances to accommodate different goals:

  • 100 Miler
  • 50 Miler
  • 35 Miler
  • 18 Miler

The 100 Miler begins at the Dalton Convention Center and travels to the Dry Creek Trail system before returning. This section of the course features runnable single-track paths through pine forests. The loop system in the Dry Creek area allows supporters to remain in a single location for over 30 miles of the race. For the 18 Miler, 35 Miler, and 50 Miler events, runners are transported by bus from the finish area to their respective starting points, eventually running back to the central finish line.

The finish line area is designed as a communal space where participants can gather, share stories, and eat after their effort on the trail. Registration for all distances typically remains open until the event reaches its capacity of 450 runners. Due to the logistics of managing the event, the organizers do not provide refunds, deferrals, or bib transfers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
