The Cove - Chickamauga, GA
The Cove takes place in McLemore Cove at Mountain Cove Farms, near 994 Dougherty Gap Rd in Chickamauga, GA. McLemore Cove is a 15 mile long valley between Lookout Mountain and Pigeon Mountain, marking a transition between the Cumberland Plateau and the Ridge and Valley province of the Appalachian Mountains.
Distances and elevation gains:
- 50K - 5,000 ft elevation gain; 10 hour time limit.
- 30K - 2,500 ft elevation gain.
- 10K - 650 ft elevation gain.
All courses climb from The Cove up Pigeon Mountain. The 10K route rolls through the hills and fields of Mountain Cove Farms into Whiskey Hollow. The 30K and 50K routes pass by Rocktown. The 50K route uses the Estelle Mines Trail, passes by old railroad tunnels, Pocket Falls, and the High Point Overlook. Organizers state the course will avoid hazards at Ellison's Cave and the ghost town of Estelle.
Event administration notes include a required day use pass for Crockford-Pigeon Mountain WMA in the form of a Combo Hunting/Fishing Short Term license for the race day; the cost is $5 and a reminder will be issued with registration. Listed entry fees range from USD 58.50 to USD 92.81 across three price tiers. A race shirt is guaranteed for registrations completed in late February. Registration closes March 11.
