Rabid Raccoon
The Rabid Raccoon is a middle distance trail race hosted by Bad Beard Events on Raccoon Mountain near Chattanooga, Tennessee. The event covers the north and west sides of the mountain and starts at Laurel Point. The course uses named singletrack trails including Megawatt, Grindstone Ridge, Lower Chunky, Live Wire 1 and 2, High Voltage, and Split Rock. The race direction changes each year; in 2027 the course runs clockwise.
The event distance is 25K. The published elevation profile lists about 2,200 feet of climbing with elevations between 648 and 1,848 feet. All runners receive a shirt, a finisher prize, and post race food. Raccoon Mountain has 28.3 miles of trail open year round; the full reservoir loop is 14.2 miles with about 1,450 feet of climbing, which organizers note as the closest option for a longer mountain run near downtown.
