Lookout Mountain Trail Race
The Lookout Mountain Trail Race is an off-road running event held on Lookout Mountain, Georgia. The event starts on the Covenant College campus and utilizes predominantly single track trails. Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 50 Miler
- 18 Miler
- 10K
The 50 Miler and 18 Miler courses share the same initial paths, navigating two exposed bluff lines that offer expansive views where it is possible to see five different states on clear days. The 50 Miler route continues through the Lula Lake Land Trust, passing through rhododendron, mixed hardwood, and hemlock forests, as well as the 120-foot Lula Falls. This course crosses five different creeks and features a mix of climbs and runnable sections. Aid stations along the route provide hot soup and campfires during the evening hours.
The 10K course begins with flat sections on college cross-country trails before transitioning into narrow trails alongside two separate creeks. This distance includes steep climbs and is designed to be accessible for those new to trail running while remaining a technical challenge in the region.
The event is organized by Wild Trails, a non-profit organization. Proceeds from the race are used to support the protection and expansion of nature trails in the Chattanooga area. Registration for the event closes on December 14, or earlier if the participant capacity is reached. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
