Lookout Mountain Trail Race
The Lookout Mountain Trail Race takes place on Lookout Mountain, GA, starting at the Covenant College campus. The event offers multiple trail distances:
- 50 Miler
- 18 Miler
- 10K
The courses run primarily on single track trails and include a mix of climbs, runnable sections and moderate descents. The 50 and 18 mile courses share the route for the first 18 miles. The route crosses or follows several creeks and passes through Lula Lake Land Trust, which includes rhododendron, mixed hardwood and hemlock forests and the 120 foot Lula Falls. The course also navigates two exposed bluff lines that provide extended views; on one section it is possible to see five states on a clear day.
Aid stations are provided on the course and are described as offering hot soup and evening camp fires. The 10K begins with a couple of flat and fast miles on college cross country trails before turning to narrower trails along two separate creeks and several steep climbs. Race proceeds benefit Wild Trails, a 501(c)(3) organization focused on the use, protection and expansion of nature trails in the greater Chattanooga area.
