Sundowner Trail Marathon
The Sundowner Trail Marathon is scheduled for 5 June 2027 around Purleigh, Essex. The route covers approximately 27 miles with about 2,500 ft of ascent and is organised as two different loops that return to the start/finish at the midpoint.
The course passes coastal saltmarsh, canal towpaths, vineyards and forests. Three checkpoints are placed across the route; they are described as well stocked and include vegan options kept separate. The event is cupless; runners should plan to carry their own drinking containers. Drop bags are available at roughly 15 miles at the event headquarters.
Mandatory kit includes the mobile phone provided on entry, a head torch rated at least 250 lumens and a backup light source that is not a mobile phone. No crewing or pacing is allowed. The organiser requests that participants respect other footpath users and take any litter away from the course.
Prizes include a £100 award for a new course record, bespoke trophies and prize money for open category finishers (£50 for winners, £25 for runners up, £15 for third place). There is also a marked Strava segment of about 1 km with separate prizes for the fastest male and female, subject to eligibility rules.
