Shotover Moonlight Mountain Marathon
The Shotover Moonlight Mountain Marathon is an off road trail event held on Ben Lomond High Country Station near Queenstown, New Zealand. The 15th edition is scheduled for 20 February 2027 and uses traditional mustering routes and historic gold mining water races across private high country land.
The course begins on the beach below the Pipeline Bridge in Skippers Canyon and finishes at Moke Lake. Terrain includes abandoned 1880s water races, sheep tracks on razorback ridges, beech forest, river valleys, a scree slope descent, a ladder climb beside a waterfall and a short abandoned gold mining tunnel. More than 60 percent of the route is single track type terrain.
Total ascent and descent exceed 2500 m. Trail surface breakdown given by the organisers includes about 13 km of water race single track, 13 km of ridgeline and other single track, 8 km of riverbed and valley running and 8 km of farm 4WD track. The course layout and surfaces mean steady footing and route awareness are important.
The event is staged on private property and no access is permitted outside race day. Pre race accommodation packages are offered that include a helicopter transfer to the start and one night lodging with meals, with package pricing noted by the organisers.
